The Final Days of Final Fantasy?

Sometimes I just sit back and look at Square's masterpiece series of games and I just marvel.

And sometimes, I wonder if they're going to have the common sense to let it go to die gracefully before they destroy the legacy that they've created through over a dozen games.

The rapidly-accelerating downward spiral of the Final Fantasy series through numerous sequels and spinoffs has been bothering me for a while, and left me wondering what happened to the anticipation that surrounded each new game, new world, new characters.

Oh, that's right. It got eclipsed in the obsessive revisitations to worlds, characters, and games that we've already finished. Granted, I'm still hoping the Advent Children movie will completely knock my socks off. But the latest trend of knockoff games, some still in development, is bugging me. So while this rant is a little tangential, I'd still like to share my thoughts on what I call the final days of Final Fantasy.
