A Parent’s Guide to Key Words in Japanese Import Media

There's no denying it; Japanese comics and animation are here to stay. They're a phenomenon that has swept the Western world, popular with fans of all ages due to a complex range of storylines and art styles suitable for both children and adults.

But parents, have you ever asked yourself just how adult some of your child's anime and manga are? You'll hear words like yaoi, yuri, and june thrown around in groups of anime fans as young as age twelve; do you know what they mean well enough to decide if they're appropriate for your children's consumption? If you're lost without any inkling of Japanese language and the terminology associated with Japanese animation, video games, and comics, then you might want to check out this little primer. You may be surprised at what your kids have been discussing.
