ActionScripting Basics: Using System.capabilities to Determine a User's Screen Size

Sunday April 20, 2008
Recently, I've been working on a side project in Flash that creates a full-screen window with content that dynamically repositions itself to center based on the user's screen size relative to the original size of the stage, without actually scaling the content inside the Flash movie unless the user enters a dynamically adjustable width (which will then cause the content to recenter itself once it resizes the width). Luckily Flash has a set of ActionScripts under System.capabilities, which allows Flash to gather various data about the system specifications of the user viewing the Flash movie and pass it back to any functions that might use it - including the screen resolution.

Have you voted in the most recent poll? Why did you get into animation?

On my laptop with dual screens it reads the main screen only. But it does work.
