FAQ: Why are there so many animation programs?

Flash, Toon Boom, 3D Studio Max, Maya, DigiCel Flipbook - and those are just the biggest names. Throw in Anime Studio, ARTOONIX, Eovia Carrerra, The TAB, and more, all of them with various functionalities and various price tags, and your head may start to spin trying to figure out which one would work best for you. There might seem to be too many animation programs out there, until you stop to consider what they can do compared to what you need them to do. Many are designed for a very specific purpose, and if that purpose doesn't match yours, then it isn't hard to narrow the list down and select the program you need.
