We aren't always all-Flash, all the time around here; in fact, one of my favorite "animation" techniques uses not Flash, but screen captures programs. It's not actually animation, but a video recording of mouse movements and screen actions as people draw; I've watched animations that start as rough pencil sketches and turn into photo-realistic portraits, beautiful renderings of cars and animals, and precisely detailed technical drawings. It's fascinating to watch the drawing process captured and animated out - and it's not that hard to do the same.
