Adobe to Acquire Macromedia

Friday April 29, 2005
Just a little heads-up for you fans of both Adobe and Macromedia: the two are combining, with Adobe acquiring the multimedia company for a cool $3.4 billion.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, honestly. Obviously this is going to impact future products, and frankly I don't want to see Adobe's slant on Macromedia's style of doing things. Both have their little "quirks" that can drive an animator crazy (and I refuse to use Adobe ImageReady unless there's no other option available), but both also have their positive points; they wouldn't be industry standards if they didn't. But Adobe's way of doing things works for Adobe products; Macromedia's way of doing things works for Macromedia products. I don't know if I'd be comfortable if Adobe's user-interface methodology started to creep into Macromedia's products, especially in the animation area. Thoughts? Comments? How do you feel about this (if you even care at all)?
