Double-click on the first thumbnail to edit it. On the timeline of the movie clip (not of your main stage), copy your first keyframe and then paste it several frames down – the number of frames depends on how long you want it to take to expand.

On the second frame, use the Free Transform Tool or the Transform Panel to bring the thumbnail to its full size.
