Flash Tip: Editing Symbols in a New Window

If you’d like to be able to edit instances of symbols without constantly drilling down to the symbol’s stage before drilling back up again to the root-level stage, you might want to try a feature of Flash that lets you open your symbol’s editing stage in a separate window, as if it’s its own Flash file.

To do this, right-click on a symbol on your stage, and select Edit in New Window.
