Changing a Flash Symbol Type / Symbol Properties

By , About.com Guide

1 of 4

Say you've created a symbol, and in a careless click turned it into a graphic when you wanted a movie clip or a button. Deleting it deletes the object inside it; hitting "undo" recovers the non-symbol object, but doesn't remove the symbol from the library. You could delete the symbol after recovering the original object...but the easier way to fix the problem is to just change the symbol properties, including the symbol type. You'd be surprised how easy this is; just locate the symbol in the Library, right-click it, and select Properties.
