Creating a "Film Framing" Effect in Flash

Now we need to figure out how tall the rectangle should be, so that it matches the 16:9 ratio with a width of 640 pixels. This is going to take a little basic algebra, as 16:9=640:x, and we need to figure out what that x is. I’ll break the math down for you a little bit, but not too much:

16/9 = 640/x
16x = 5869
x=5869/16

You can substitute just about any figures into that equation to get the measurements you need, depending on the size of your Flash movie. x comes out between 310 and 311, so I rounded up to 311 pixels.

Use the Info Panel to adjust the height of the rectangle, by entering the correct value in the height field.
