Double-click on the movie clip in the Library to edit it. Right-click on the first blank keyframe, and select Actions to open the Actions pane.

We’re going to deal strictly in ActionScripts in this symbol, as we only need its timeline and not any actual visible content – but you may want to add an invisible shape on the movie clip’s stage to create a kind of invisible hotspot. That way when you drag it onto the stage, you’ll actually see its bounding box as more than a tiny dot.
