Flash Animation 24: Flash for Web Design: Creating a Thumbnail Gallery

Adding a getURL command

Select your first thumbnail, right-click it, and select Actions to open your Actions panel for that button. We're going to use the familiar getURL command here, but in a different fashion; before we just put a regular link into the URL field, but now we're going to insert a javascript code that tells Flash to open the page that we specify in a new window of a certain width and height. Javascript is a completely different coding language from Actionscript and shouldn't be confused with it, but with a little prudence it's not difficult to make the two work together so that you can insert Javascript code to make your Flash web pages even more complex and customizable.

To get started, go ahead and insert your getURL command by going to Actions->BrowserNetwork->getURL. As usual, it will automatically insert an on (release) to contain the command so that Flash knows to execute when the mouse button releases a click.
