Creating a Button Symbol

Now it's time to take the separate lines, fills, and text for our button and actually make them into a button symbol. Click and drag with the arrow tool to select all of the components of your button (make sure that your other layers are all locked so that you don't accidentally include anything else) and then hit F8 on your keyboard or click Insert->Convert to Symbol to bring up the Convert to Symbol dialogue.

In previous lessons we've created both Graphic and Movie Clip symbols; this time, you're going to select the Button option, and then type in a name for your symbol. When you click "OK" you should see the symbol appear in your library, with an icon depicting a finger pressing a button.
