Flash Animation 9: Adding Interactivity with Buttons

Creating a "Down" Button State

I'm just going to duplicate my "Over" state for my "Down" state by copying the "Over" keyframe into the "Down" keyframe. I'm not going to bother with the button depression, as the moment of the click is so short as to be almost unnoticeable; if you want to, however, the easiest way to create the "depressed" button click is to just move the button down and to the right or left by nudging it a few pixels (you can also reverse bevels, if you're using beveled buttons). This way when the user clicks, the button seems to sink in under the click.

And that's it; you've made a simple button, though right now it doesn't do anything other than mouseover. You can click back to your scene to view it, and turn on the Enable Simple Buttons option (Ctrl+Alt+B on PC or Command+Option+B on Mac) to roll over and watch it work right there on your stage. You can also preview or publish to view it in the final movie.
