Dynamic eCard with Flash and PHP

By Adrien-Luc Sanders, About.com

For this lesson we’re going to tackle customizable eCards, taking the dynamic options available for text field variables a step further by gathering data from outside Flash, instead of inside the movie. We’ll be passing data from one Flash movie to a URL, and then using PHP to retrieve the data from the URL and send it back to the appropriate Flash variables.

If you’re attempting this tutorial, I expect you to already have a comfortable familiarity with Flash’s drawing and animation tools, and some passing familiarity with using variables with input text fields – so I won’t be walking you through every last step of drawing the scene or creating the text fields and the button that passes the data to the URL. You’ll want to design your own input interface and your own card animation; what matters is adhering to the basic principles outlined..

Let’s start by setting up the input fields that will gather the data to be displayed in the customizable areas of the eCard.
