Balance

By Adrien-Luc Sanders, About.com

Definition: "Balance" refers to the distribution of weight in a drawn figure - not just in animation, but in still art. In order for animation to flow smoothly, a figure's weight must be balanced properly in regards to its motion and position. For example, if a character has a habit of walking with their shoulders thrown far back, then the lift of their legs to counter-balance the weight of their upper body should reflect that.
