Rostrum Camera

By Adrien-Luc Sanders, About.com

Definition: A rostrum camera is a special type of camera used to film 2D cel animation, one frame at a time. The camera is mounted on a column, and frames of animation are placed in front of it and captured one at a time.

Modern rostrum cameras are usually computer-controlled, and can be adjusted with varying degrees of precision to take varying shots of the same frame.
