Quick-Editing Symbols: Editing Flash Symbols in One Click

By Adrien-Luc Sanders, About.com

There are three "standard" ways to switch from the main stage timeline to a symbol's timeline, which allows you to edit the symbol's various shapes, frames, and layers: by opening the main menu to find the "Edit" command, by right-clicking on the symbol on the stage to select "Edit," and by right-clicking on the symbol in the library to select "Edit."

Really, that's more clicks than you need. Most people stumble across this little trick by accident, but in case you haven't, Flash lets you edit a symbol just by double-clicking on the symbol itself. Takes less than a second, and lets you work much more efficiently. Just take care that you don't accidentally double-click a symbol before continuing work on a scene; I've done this before, and accidentally ended up adding new objects within my symbol's timeline instead of on the main stage.
