The Bottom Line

This is the first time I will ever say this: download this software at your own risk. If Cyberdelia 3D Animation Software means getting what you pay for, then it's definitely a matter of getting what you give: nothing.

Pros

  • It's free.

Cons

  • Crashes on attempted launch.
  • Did we mention the crashing?
  • Not to mention the issues related to improper shutdown.
  • Just to be sure we're clear on this: it crashes.

Description

  • Promises 3D animation tools similar to those used by Final Fantasy designers.
  • Offers the ability to export into a number of formats.
  • Crashes repeatedly on Windows XP and Vista.

Guide Review - Cyberdelia 3D Animation Software

I tried very, very hard to review Cyberdelia 3D Animation Software. It's free, it offers exports to Director for Shockwave3D, DirectX, and VRML97, and it promises that with "Metasequoia" you can create 3D animations and models similar to the great Japanese game studios.

It might do that, if it would actually run.

The first time I tried to run the EXE file, it crashed my computer. I thought the fact that I had World of Warcraft running in the background (yes, I'm that kind of geek) might have affected it, so after doing a clean boot cycle, I ran the Cyberdelia EXE again.

And it crashed again.

And this time, the improper shutdown caused quite a few problems with my wireless and browser that I had to roll back with a system restore. I figured maybe it was my computer; it's a custom rig, and I've tweaked it to heck and back. So I tried it on my backup rig, which is basically set up with out-of-the-box factory settings.

Crashed again.

And again, on three of my partner's systems across two different Windows operating systems.

Are we noticing a pattern here? The program is unstable, and I can't even review its animation features if I can't use them.

If it's so bad, why give it a 1-star review when the About.com rating system does indeed go lower? Mainly in an attempt to be fair. There's still a slim chance that there's something wrong with every computer in our house, and the problem is with our systems, not the software. If any readers have downloaded this software and managed to run it, do be so kind as to leave a review of your own.
