Alpha Gradient I

Now I want to make another gradient--but I want it to be different from a normal gradient. I want it to be misty, semi-transparent, fading down to full transparency; this is because I'm going to make layered clouds, and I want them to fluff softly across my stage.

So after selecting a default linear gradient, the next step is to use the Color Mixer Panel to set the starting and ending colors to white; then adjust the alpha slider for the starting color until it is at less than 100% (I chose 70%) so that it is only partially opaque.
