Flash Gradient Tool Tip: Changing Gradient Overflow

By Adrien-Luc Sanders, About.com

"Overflow" refers to the continuation of a gradient in Flash once it's reached the end of the blend from one color through all the colors in the gradient palette. You generally get overflow when you fill a shape wholly with a gradient, then use the Gradient Transform Tool to move the gradient's center to one side or the other of the shape. Flash's default behavior is to just extend the last color in the gradient to fill the rest of the shape.

You can change that default behavior by using the Overflow dropdown in the Color panel on the right-hand toolbar. The dropdown allows you to set the gradient to repeat when it reaches its limit and overflows, and lets you choose how it repeats. Just click the dropdown and select an option.
